What Is Reiki

Reiki is an ancient Japanese energy healing technique that promotes balance, relaxation, and well-being. The word “Reiki” combines two Japanese words – “Rei” meaning universal life force and “Ki” meaning energy. As a holistic counselor, I understand that true healing requires addressing the whole person – mind, body, and spirit. Reiki works with your body’s natural energy systems to remove blockages, restore flow, and activate your innate healing abilities.

Reiki is not tied to any religion or spiritual practice, making it accessible to everyone regardless of beliefs. It complements traditional therapy by addressing energetic imbalances that may manifest as physical or emotional symptoms.

How Reiki Works

During times of stress, trauma, or emotional distress, our energy can become blocked or imbalanced. These energetic disruptions can manifest as physical symptoms, emotional distress, or mental fog. Reiki works through gentle touch or by holding hands just above specific areas of the body to channel universal life force energy.

As a Reiki practitioner, I act as a conduit for this healing energy, allowing it to flow through my hands to where it’s most needed in your body. The energy naturally goes where healing is required – whether that’s releasing tension, reducing inflammation, calming an overactive nervous system or healing generational trauma.

The beauty of Reiki is that it’s guided by innate wisdom rather than practitioner direction. The energy knows exactly where to go and what to do, making each session uniquely tailored to your body’s current needs.

How I Incorporate Reiki in My Practice

As both a licensed therapist and Usui Reiki Master, I bring a unique integrated approach to healing. My journey began with traditional psychotherapy approaches like CBT, but I always felt something was missing. Through studying yoga and body-centered approaches, I discovered how trauma gets stored in the body, which led me to Reiki as a powerful complementary healing modality.

I offer Reiki in several ways:

Standalone Reiki Sessions: Pure energy healing sessions focused on balancing your energetic body, chakra balancing,  releasing stored trauma and clearing energy blocks and promoting deep relaxation.

Integrated Therapy Sessions: Combining talk therapy with Reiki to address both conscious patterns and subconscious energetic blocks simultaneously.

Reiki-Infused Herbal Support: My Starseed Teas can be infused with personalized Reiki energy upon request, enhancing their supportive properties.

I may also incorporate Reiki as part of a holistic treatment plan alongside EMDR, Parts Work (IFS), or other therapeutic approaches based on your unique needs and goals.

What to Expect During a Reiki Session

Standalone Reiki sessions with me typically last 60 minutes. You’ll remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a massage table. I’ll begin by discussing your current challenges and any specific areas you’d like to focus on.

During the session, I’ll place my hands gently on or slightly above different areas of your body working with intuition to guide where the energy is needed. As the energy flows, you might experience sensations of warmth, tingling, coolness, or gentle pulsing. Some people see colors or images, while others simply feel deeply relaxed.

After the session, we’ll take time to process your experience and integrate any insights that emerged. Many clients report feeling deeply relaxed, emotionally lighter, and more centered after receiving Reiki.
